Universe of Solutions is a participatory art project by Greek-British artist Mikhail Karikis that invites us to listen closely to the climate, to one another, and to futures yet to be built, in dialogue with the Biennial’s theme “in minor keys”,  Inspired by Hartmut Rosa and Pauline Oliveros,  Universe of Solution proposes resonance as a daily, political, and artistic practice capable of tuning collective imagination in dissonant times.

Universe of Solutions proposes a geological metaphor for the creation of a world yet to come. Three large projections filmed in the volcanic landscapes of São Miguel show young musicians performing sound compositions with instruments such as ocarinas, ocean drums, rain sticks, and thunder sheets, evoking the sounds of the climate.

Two sets of six LCD screens display distributed portraits arranged to suggest an assembly about to gather, converging toward the center of the space conceived as an amphitheater — a place to observe the work and slow down. A chorus of voices can be heard, composed from responses to the project’s central questions: “We are together because…” and “Together we could…”.

At the entrance, the environment is dominated by an atmospheric blue that recalls the threshold between night and day — a time of possibility and transition. A blue gradient wall features the two neon phrases, anticipating the themes of the exhibition. Pieces of chalk invite the public to write their responses directly on the wall — a gesture that expands this universe of solutions and offers it to the city and to the world.
